Report a Claim (Damage From a Named Storm)

We hope you and your families are safe during this difficult time in our city, and we want to make your claim process as stress free as we can. The following is Claims information for use after a named hurricane, tropical storm or flood for damage that exceeds your deductible.  HIG stands ready to assist you with the claims reporting process.

**If you DO NOT have flood insurance you can file for assistance at https://www.disasterassistance.gov Registering online is the quickest way to register for FEMA assistance. If you don't have access, you may register by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). Disaster assistance applicants who have a speech disability or hearing loss and use TTY, should call 1-800-462-7585 directly; for those who use 711 or Video Relay Service (VRS), call 1-800-621-3362. The toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (local time) seven days a week until further notice.

Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.

***If you need to report a claim, please call our office at 713-349-0400 and we will assist you with reviewing your deductible and determining which company to file with. You can also reach us via Online Chat

ServoPro provides 24 hour emergency restoration services for damage caused by water, fire, mold and flood.

What to Do Before the Adjuster Arrives:
Generally, your adjuster will contact you within 24-48 hours after receiving your notice of loss. However depending on local conditions and the severity of flooding, it may take more time.
  1. Take clear photos of the building damage and contents damage.
  2. Keep all damaged items don't throw anything away!
  3. Make a list of any structural and damaged items that you notice and gather receipts.
  4. Take clear photographs of the damaged items.
  5. Review the Summary of Coverage, the Claims Handbook and your policy form.

If your home is not insured, contact local Red Cross or FEMA Disaster Recovery Center for assistance.

FEMA – 1-800-621-FEMA (3362)

For temporary repairs to your home or business:

Make a list of your damaged property. Take photos or videotape of the damage prior to making any temporary repairs. Don't throw away damaged items until your insurance adjuster has had a chance to view them. Only make reasonable and necessary temporary repairs ONLY to protect the property from further damage. Cover broken windows and holes to keep rain out. Don't make permanent repairs until instructed by your insurance company. Keep a record of your repair expenses and save all receipts. "Temporary" means something that can be reasonably removed for inspections. It cannot be repairs that will prevent the adjusters from seeing the reported damage. Give the photos and documentation to the adjuster.

We live and work in your local area and understand this is a stressful time.  Bad weather disrupts everyone’s life, and the uncertainty can be difficult to deal with.  We are here to help you through this process.  Please be safe, and contact us with any questions.
